Team-Teach training is accredited by the British Institute
of Learning Disabilities and is affiliated to The General
Services Association.
The basic tutor courses are quality controlled and assured
by an external moderator, with potential new tutors having
to pass both a theoretical test and a number of practical
assessments.
Tutors also receive a visual record and a teaching manual
of all preferred techniques within the core curriculum.
Tutors are required to produce a summary evaluation report
that addresses critical questions concerning issues around
safety and the holistic, whole setting approach to behaviour
management. This summary evaluation report is returned to
the Director of Team-Teach for monitoring and quality control.
Team Teach is the recommended preferred training strategy
for the majority of Local Authorities and is supported by
the National Emotional & Behavioural Difficulties Association
& National Association of Head Teachers.
All tutors are required to attend prescribed refresher courses
and are only permitted to train within the boundaries of their
licence.
The Team-Teach Approach has received letters of support
from the Teaching Unions: National Association of Head Teachers,
National Union of Teachers, National Association of Schoolteachers
& Union of Women Teachers, Professional Association of
Teachers.
DCSF and DOH government departments are aware of the Team-Teach
Approach, having been actively consulted concerning recent
guidance on the use of reasonable force and helping service
settings select positive handling strategies.
Inspection bodies and the Health & Safety Executive have
also commented favourably in their reports on the positive
impact that the Team Teach training framework has had when
adopted by leadership, management and a whole setting holistic
approach.
The Team-Teach Approach has been featured in the Times Educational
Supplement and on the B.B.C. 2 Programme "Just One Chance".
Team-Teach training courses have been delivered via SENJIT
at The Institute of Education.
